Overview
Word Renaissance is a collaborative project that combines space design and interaction design, aiming to draw attention to the limitations and challenges associated with word usage and expression. The installation seeks to recreate the current state of the Chinese language environment and envision its future trajectory.
Drawing inspiration from movable type printing, our installation consists of two wooden shelving structures that resemble printing matrices, along with numerous cartons filled with character stamps resembling woodblock. The wooden shelves symbolize the traditional process of printing, evoking a sense of craftsmanship and the laborious efforts involved in creating words. The cartons, filled with character stamps, represent the vast array of words available for use. The installation serves as a visual representation of the dynamic and evolving landscape of language. By engaging with the device, users are invited to consider how the evolving landscape of language affects communication and self-expression in contemporary China.
